When will the bubbling cauldron that is American politics boil over?

It seems to become more ridiculous with each passing day to me. Neither side wants to budge and both have become polar opposites. Are we headed for Civil War? Economic Collapse? I've never seen my country so internally wounded in my 30 years on this planet. Is it possible to heal? All the hate is enough to make me feel sick to my stomach.
