Western digital my book essentials 500gb USB 2.0 broke!!?

My external broke the other day so I opened the case and found the USB port broke off, so I took off the control board, and tried to hook it up internally by sata cable and power cable. The drive shows up but it says device is not working properly. So I'm stuck don't know what to do now. I kno the hard drive still works, I held the USB port on there to get some files off haha. Can someone help me out?!?!? I'm running windows 7 btw brand new and no viruses.
