What are • Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons and Migrants?
Literally, refugees are people fleeing from one place to another seeking safety and stability ( i.e., refuge); Internally Displaced Persons are people who leave home but remain in the same country; and migrants are people who leave home and leave their country. "Refugee" and "Internally Displaced Person" are terms generally associated with large scale movement of people who are fleeing conditions such as war, civil unrest, famine, flooding, etc, while "migrant" can refer to a single person who moves from one country to another for any reason, though it is often used in context with the word "worker".
